This screenshot (taken in the Settings app) shows that the highest my monitor can go is 1080p. This screenshot (taken from the Intel Graphics app) shows that the highest my monitor goes is actually 4K. Is there anyway to get the Settings app to recognize that my monitor goes up to 4K?
Instead, we suggest using a DisplayPort 1.3 or 1.4 port, both of which support up to 120Hz at 4K resolution. The new HDMI 2.1 standard is also capable of 4K at 120Hz, and even 8K at 60Hz.

To check if your monitor is 4K, there are multiple options available. For one, you can simply check the box that the monitor came in and look for signs that it supports 4K. Since 4K is, well, the main selling point of such a monitor, it shouldn't be hard to find. Secondly, you can download MonitorInfoView.
HDMI 1.4: This connection can easily deliver 4K from your PC. They are tested to transfer 1080p to 4K. So if you have such HDMI connection, you are free. HDMI 2.0: This cable can do everything the 1.4 cable can. However, it offers a wider range of shades for your 4K devices.
HDMI Alt Mode supports HDMI 1.4b which does support 4K video, but only up to 30 frames per second (it does not support HDMI 2.0). While this may be adequate for office PC applications, casual web browsing, and photo editing, 30 frames per second is not adequate for gaming and high quality video playback.
